Precocious Puberty

“A six-year-old who suffers from a rare condition known as precocious puberty faces years of ‘onerous’ medical treatment… Precocious puberty is defined in medical journals as the development of secondary sexual characteristics, including breast development, before the age of eight… Dr Thalange said [the girl] could expect to lead a normal life if the treatment was successful, but added it would not be a pleasant experience for her. ‘The treatment is quite effective but it is quite onerous,’ he said… She will need medical treatment including an injection in her stomach once a month for the next six years to prevent her periods from beginning prematurely. Her overactive hormones have also resulted in a crush on pop star Gareth Gates and when she visits the video store with her parents she heads straight to the horror section, completely ignoring all the children’s films. Dad Simon, 34, a community warden with NELM, said: ‘She really likes horror films — the more blood the better.’” — Norfolk Eastern Daily Press (UK)

Given how onerous the treatment is, you half wonder why they don’t just let her act on her sexual feelings, however premature they may be. It’s not to say they should turn her over to the local pedophiles, but at least they could teach her how to masturbate. Granted, it may seem illicit to encourage a child that young to pleasure herself, but it has to be better than passively allowing her to channel her incipient feelings into horror movies. Why encourage her to associate sex with violence? She may be physically developed at age six, but she’s going to be mentally warped by age seven or eight — you’ll find her hanging out on internet chat rooms devoted to necrophilia or cannibalism before long…

“Teach her how to masturbate”? What, should they have demonstrations or show her porno tapes? Maybe they should just molest her and tell her to keep doing what they did. That’s just stupid.

actually, the treatment is more because kids who develop that early have physical problems. the hormones and periods starting that early can have bad side effects, the least of which is that a girl’s bones fuse about 2 years after starting her period, so a 6 yr old menstrating would for sure leave her exceptionally small. a child’s body is just not equiped to handle such stress. imagine how hard puberty is for girls (and boys) as teenagers… now do that to a 6 yr old… while she’s trying to relate to other 1st graders. i started my periods earlier than some girls (when i was in 5th grade) and also started getting tits at the same time… it wasn’t super early, but it was early enough that other kids kinda gave me funny looks, and it wasn’t a good time socially. slowing down these hyperactive developments seems to be the best route for this girl. i mean, lots of people go through nasty treatments for things (chemo to treat cancer). you just gotta look at the big picture.

Hmmmm… I have never heard of this particular disorder, but was wearing a bra at the age of 8 and started my period when I was 10 after popping my own cherry reinacting scenes from Mom’s bf’s hardcore porn novels. *ahem* I lost my virginity w/ a 21 y.o. man at the age of 14 & by the time I was 19, had been w/ over 50 partners - some female. To further complicate matters, I was raised by my dad who would share his Playboy’s w/ me & even watch soft porn on cable w/ me there. His eyes conveyed his interest in my overly-developed assets (38D) which made me very uncomfortable w/ hugging. Also, I eventually started equating sex with love, and was always w/ older men. I didn’t date in high school & the first time I “slept” w/ someone my own age was when I was 17. That was a 3-some w/ 2 guys. Nothing ordinary about that - thank goodness! As a mother w/ a daughter about to turn 13 who is a virgin & also overdeveloped (partly due to her weight problem, though) I worry that she may suffer some of the same problems. Anyway, I digress.

I am going to read up on this as I can also relate to having issues w/ hormones, i.e. birth control pills. They made me ill and I got pregnant twice while using them. Gotta wonder what’s up w/ that!

Until next topic…

I have to say that this is part horse crap…I started my period at 7 yrs old. I grew to be a mother of 2 and never had any injections or anything. I have no health problems due in part because of my early onset. I started exploring my paretns closets and all, over course it wasnt like they hid the stuff well. I remember being embarassed when I would be in the bathroom and the older girls would come in and make comments about why tampons and pads were in my purse.

I agree with anonymous at top, J4U, it sounds like you have a screwed up life, Bobo the Jojo and Woah, that is perverted and she probably has STDs, good for you Michele, Dave and Rebecca, you might have a point, but if this were true then kids who eat meat will all devolop fast and vegitarians would be smaller, and none of those would be true!

I started masturbating when I was just eight years old, but didn’t start devoloping until I was eleven. and my periods started even later at fourteen, so I find this very ineresting.

I think I agree though with giving her some treatment, but not all… I think this if this girl is progressing at this rate she’ll start masturbating by herself, so just leave her be.

I was the first girl in my class to wear a bra, and developed way ahead of pretty much everyone else (I wasn’t overweight either, I might add). I had my first period when I was 10, and although I was one of the tallest girls at that point, it sure didn’t last - I barely grew another centimetre again. I’m 17 now and still 5′2″, the same height I was at menarche.
