Florida Man Convicted of Raping Infant
“A jury has convicted a man of raping a 9-month-old girl and leaving her for dead in the woods. Jurors on Friday rejected Randolph Standifer’s insanity defense and found him guilty of kidnapping, sexual battery of a child younger than 12 and attempted murder in the second degree. Standifer, 23, will be sentenced to life in prison, the only penalty allowed by law when a child younger than 12 is raped. The baby’s mother allowed Standifer to spend the night in her trailer home in September 2001. The next morning, she discovered that Standifer and her baby were gone. Hillsborough County sheriff’s deputies found Standifer, who confessed to raping and strangling the baby. He led them to woods where deputies found the baby still alive. The victim, now 3, bears scars from the rape and a colostomy operation.” — Newsday (US)

It’s hard to say thanks for this link since really this is the kind of story you’d rather not have read. Good Lord! You can sympathize with a guy who rapes an eleven-year-old — not to say that it’s right, but you can understand how he finds the woman in a young girl. But a nine-month-old baby! That’s not even pedophilia, that’s just — sick.
And perhaps sick really is the word for it, since the perp “as a child was repeatedly molested and shocked with a cattle prod by a neighbor.” If you can’t understand how this guy would rape a baby, maybe you can at least understand how a child molested with a cattle prod might grow up to be an adult with some severe problems. Which is by no means to excuse him for perpetuating the abuse.
Anyway, here is a hard and fast rule to remember when venturing into the shadowy realms of perverse sexual behavior. If your partner is physically incapable of removing his diaper by himself — whether he’s too young or too old — you have no business doing it for him. Go jerk off to a parenting magazine, if you have to, or go rim yourself with a baby bottle, if you must. But for God’s sake, keep away from babies!
Moral of the story: No vagina is safe, at any age.
What I want to know is how this kid managed to live through what must have been proportionately akin to a virgin being mounted by a Clydesdale.

it IS sick that he RAPED and tried to kill a baby but the sexual attraction to babies is harmless. I’ve been with several babies, all relationships consentual and it hasn’t hurt either of us. In fact, I married one of the babies I was with and now we are happily married with several children of our own!

Although the crime was horrible, the person who committed it is still a person. When all is said and done, each person will have to make amends for his actions.
Individual condemnation assumes that you have the right to judge a person for his actions.
If something happened to either of my children today, tomorrow, or whenever, I can only hope that I have enough strength to convince myself that everything happens for a reason, and no action will occur without consequence.
