Supervisor Criticized For Racy Email
“An e-mail controversy has some people calling for the resignation of an elected official in Bucks County. Republican Warminster Township Supervisor Fred Gold distributed the e-mail. Gold sent an e-mail picturing a topless woman to other township employees. It was sent back in January, but then photocopies started popping up earlier this month. The e-mail supposedly celebrates the fictional holiday of National Breast Appreciation Day on Jan. 15. Accompanying the photo of the topless woman is the message ‘Beats the **** out of Martin Luther King Day doesn’t it.’ ‘I find that type of humor to be offensive and not funny at all,’ one woman said. ‘He sent this out? That’s really crude,’ another woman said.” — NBC10 (US)
Here’s an image showing a printout of the offensive email. It’s not especially offensive in itself, though certainly there will be people to take umbrage at Mr. Gold’s assertion that his fictive holiday beats the shit out of MLK day. The offensive part of his email, if offense is to be taken, principally derives from the fact that he’s a (minor) politician sending this to his colleagues and employees. By most standards, that crosses the line between collegial humor and inappropriate behavior.
The ironic thing, though, is that there’s truth to Mr. Gold’s joke. Even if you polled the people for whom MLK day has some meaning, wouldn’t at least fifty percent of them — the male half — prefer a National Breast Appreciation Day? Hell, can you imagine the attendance a parade would bring out? Most of you probably don’t even know whether there’s a parade for MLK day, and yet you’d slobber all over yourselves to go see the festivities on National Breast Appreciation Day. Just imagine the ranks of cheerleaders filing by, proudly pushing forth their bosoms, chanting a sort of marching band version of the Lords of Acid’s I Must Increase My Bust.
Maybe the smart thing to do, in order to please all parties, would be to combine MLK day and National Breast Appreciation Day. One could pay special tribute to the breasts of Negro women. (”Negro” was of course the term used by MLK.) Mr. Gold could mount the podium and give an inaugural address, “I have a dream,” and in the stead of MLK’s rather flat-chested metaphors (”every hill and mountain shall be made low”) he could sing the praises of those hills of flesh and mountains of fat.
I’m sorry, but this has got to be one of the funniest articles I have read on this site. Oh, lordy, my sides, I pulled something! Oh, wait, it was a boob!! Now what’ll I do?! I can’t go out like this, I’ll tip over!!!
Why are you sorry LuciousGoddess? Pleeeeze don’t tip over no more, stand up! rip off them clothes! Join in the parade! Get out there and march!
uhh, it’s called “mardi gras”
Just typical insensitivity towards non-whites… including the PervScan commentary. When I was in school I remember we’d spend 8 months studying white history and 1 month for “black history”. This was before MLK Day Holiday was officially recognized but my school was progressive and private. MLK Day means a hell of a lot. My parents grew up under Jim Crow laws in the South for example. Liking tits or honoring MLK are not mutually exclusive, you know.
Perhaps I flatter myself, but the amusement I confessed was towards the “tits” part, not the honorable Dr. King part, and of course they are not mutually exclusive. Why did I find it funny? Because, men can be such children. They can’t help it. (Women need to use that trait to their advantage, but that’s another discussion). And it IS funny–men can be so weak and brainless where female are curves are concerned, one bit of proof is found in the story above, especially the stupid holiday comparison, God bless’em, they are hard-wired that way, and the male mouth and brain sometime appear not to be connected.
